Third grade math took place every day for 65 minutes and included two additional 30 minute mastery extension periods per week. Both groups were heterogenous. The curriculum included place value, multiplication, division, whole number and decimal addition and subtraction with regrouping, graphing, time and money.
I used a variety of technology (laptops, power point games, smart board lessons, document camera, calculators) and hands-on math manipulatives (base ten blocks, geoboards, folder games, spinners, dice, cards, money, judy clocks, 3-dimensional shapes and colored tiles) as well as paper and pencil teaching in an effort to teach to every learning style in the classroom. Students were assessed constantly both informally and using my own unit assessments and Albemarle County quarterly assessments.

Whole Number Addition and Subtraction Problem Solving Posters
To further develop their mathematical thinking skills students worked in cooperative groups to create both an addition and subtraction word problems on chart paper. They then traded posters and solved each other's problems.
